Reading the Gazette last week two things came to my attention, firstly the ongoing saga of traffic lights in Corsham.
It is obvious that the Wiltshire Council has already made up its mind to press ahead with installing several sets of lights regardless of public opinion against them.
Having another area board meeting to convince the residents of Corsham of the need says it all.
Over the last few weeks there have been a temporary set of traffic lights on the A4 in Pickwick and you only have to see the rapid build- up of traffic to see what the residents of Corsham mean when their signs say ‘no to traffic lights’.
The second item was the ASDA re-application to build a new store on the old Westinghouse site in Chippenham.
It looks as if the WC will accept this now. It will be in the wrong location. It should be on the Pewsham side of Chippenham where there is plenty of land not developed and no large store.
No doubt the council, by letting the build go in Langley Park, can install another batch of unnecessary traffic lights to help the carbon footprint. This all leads me to conclude that the WC is nothing more than an institutionalised bureaucracy, only interested in itself not the general tax payer.
