Recent coverage in the international media of President Obama’s healthcare reforms has highlighted much criticism of the UK’s NHS.
My recent experiences lead me to believe that health provision here is much improved.
After diagnosis of a minor ailment at my GPs, I was offered a choice of hospitals, and the facility to book my own consultant appointment, at my convenience. Appointments were available within a fortnight. My routine operation is promised within four months of my original GP appointment. As this is a non-urgent procedure, I was impressed by the ease and efficiency of the process.
I know the NHS is not perfect, but 50 million Americans who are completely without healthcare would be grateful for a system like ours.
