Early indications are that Wiltshire young people have had another positive year, recording a wide range of impressive performances at both individual and school level.

Provisional figures show that GCSE results have again improved from the previous year. First indications show that 56% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths which is at least a 3% increase compared with 2008 figures. This should maintain Wiltshire’s position above the national average.

Lionel Grundy, Wiltshire Council member for children’s services, said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to all students who have gained their GCSE’s and other Level 2 qualifications today.

“To achieve these results they have worked extremely hard with excellent guidance and support from their teachers and parents. These successes provide and excellent foundation for their further education and I wish them continued success”.

Carolyn Godfrey, Wiltshire Council director for children and education, said: “As in previous years, there are some outstanding individual and school results.

"These results reflect the breadth of skills and talents of young people and the way in which young people have grown and developed as a result of the wide range of positive experiences the current curriculum offers, alongside the ongoing improvements in the quality of teaching within our schools and other providers.

"We are very proud of what they have achieved and would encourage them to continue their learning, either through formal training programme or further study”.
