John Bush, the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, is urging people to nominate outstanding voluntary groups for honours.
He believes the unsung work of local volunteers should be considered for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Such accolades are equal to those in the New Year and Birthday Honours.
Mr Bush, who lives in Westbury, said: “Volunteering groups in Wiltshire and Swindon make a huge contribution to people’s lives, often without praise for the incredible job they do.
“A prestigious national honour such as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service can prove invaluable in so many ways to their ongoing success.
“The importance of volunteer groups is all the more apparent in the current climate and I urge people across Wiltshire and Swindon to help recognise those doing outstanding work in their local communities.”
The deadline for nominations is September 30. For details and a nomination form visit www. queensawardvoluntary.gov.uk To be eligible groups have to have been volunteering for the benefit of people in the UK or overseas for at least three years.
