A group of friends will be pounding the streets to raise money for the Chippenham branch of the Royal British Legion when they take part in the town’s half marathon.
Jess Swanborough will be joined by Dean Lucas and husband and wife Danielle and Carl Hall of Chippenham, Hayley Tarling of Calne, Louise Dalton and Amanda Ritchie of London and Judith Wilson in undertaking the challenge.
Mrs Swanborough, 30, of Long Ridings, Chippenham, and her sister Danielle, 32, are Legion committee members and are hoping to raise around £1,000. “Our grandfather, Frank Swan, was in the RAF and we got involved in poppy selling,” said Mrs Swanborough.
“We have all pledged to raise £100 so if everyone reaches that we will have £900. That is not a great amount but if we all manage it we will raise nearly £1,000 – that would be great.
Another aim of the team is to raise the profile of the charity in the town.
“I have no military links myself,” she said. “I am just trying to make people aware of the Legion and to spread the name in Chippenham.”
