Children will be lining the streets of Chipp-enham next month to cheer on a team of parents and staff from New Road Nursery who are competing in the half marathon.

A team of 15 mums, dads and staff from the nursery on New Road are taking park in the Chippenham Half Marathon on September 13 in a bid to raise money to improve the nursery’s garden.

Nursery owner Mark Cawley said: “What is really nice is that the route for the half marathon comes straight down New Road so the kids are going to be waiting outside the nursery to wave us on.

“It started out as a few of us competing and then as more people heard about it more parents joined.

“We are running to raise money to improve the back garden here and get a new climbing frame but we have said to people they can obviously race for their personal charities as well.

“I think it is fantastic that so many parents are joining us – it means we can work together to get the equipment for the nursery.

“The children are all very excited and can’t wait for us to get started.

“When I ran the London Marathon last year the kids were so excited they had their own mini-marathons.”

The nursery team have got T-shirts printed with the nursery’s logo on so that the children will be able to see them coming.

Last year the marathon attracted hundreds of people from across the county and this year looks to be just as popular.

There are still a few places left for people to join the race, which takes competitors through Chippenham, Tytherton Lucas, Langley Burrell, Avon and East Tytherton but organisers are warning entries are likely to be closed before the race.
