Rubber ducks will bring a splash of colour to Cherhill as villagers compete in the bi-annual duck and raft race on Sunday.

Most of the village is expected to turn out to the event, which will be raising money for the village hall fund.

Parish councillor David Evans said: “Each year proceeds go to a different cause and this year the village hall was chosen. We are looking to improve the toilets and the flooring in the hall, which is something we have wanted to do for some time.

“We have concentrated on raising money for the kitchen, but that has been completed in the past two weeks.”

The afternoon will continue with a raft race, when competitors will attempt to sail across the pond in hand made rafts. There will be stalls and a barbecue during the races, which take place in Mill Lane.

“By raising money for the village hall in this way we can reduce costs for people renting it,” said Mr Evans.

Entry to the races is £2, which includes a free duck, and the gates open at 2pm with the duck race starting at 3pm.
