The statue of Queen Victoria, rescued from The Green in Devizes after successive vandal attacks on her, is to get a new head.
The Trust for Devizes, which took possession of the statue after its head was torn off and damaged for the second time, are hopeful it will soon be back on display.
Trust chairman Jeff Ody said: “When the trust took ownership of the Queen Victoria statue, it was in urgent need of repair and we commissioned a stonemason to carry out that task.
“As work progressed our expert found so much damage to the head that he recommended making a completely new one as the best course of action rather than letting in a new section of stone as originally intended.”
