Madge Jones who lived for many years in Kingsbury Street in Marlborough with her late husband Ron has died at the Brendoncare home at Froxfield at the age of 83.
Mrs Jones spent her final years at Brendoncare where she died on Tuesday last week and her funeral is at the West Wiltshire Crematorium on Saturday (August 29) at 10.45am.
Her nearest relatives, her surviving sister Isobel and brother Charles who live in Canada, have asked for donations to Marlborough and District Rotary Club, in lieu of flowers, to be sent to funeral directors Thomas Free and Sons Ltd, The Parade, Marlborough.
Mrs Jones was born and brought up in Canada and crossed the Atlantic as a young woman to work at a bank in London.
She was staying on aunt and uncle’s farm in Cardigan in Wales when it was visited by the local bank manager on business and he happened to have his son, Ron Jones, with him.
The couple fell in love and after marrying they settled in Marlborough where he was one of the town’s leading dentists for many years and they made their home at Cedar Tops in Kingsbury Street where Mrs Jones proved to be a knowledgeable gardener. Mr and Mrs Jones did not have any children.
Mr Jones, who died in May 2002, was a founder member of the Marlborough and District Rotary Club and his wife supported him in his Rotary activities over many years.
She was one of six children but her sister Betty and brothers George and Bob died before her..
Mrs Jones remained in close touch with her family in Canada.
She also leaves nephews David, John and Michael plus numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
