Tributes have poured in for popular Chippenham man Mark Guppy who died suddenly just weeks before his partner is due to give birth.

Mr Guppy, 42, also known as Mega and Mazzer, was a popular face in Chippenham having grown up in the town and being part of many local bands.

He died suddenly on Friday night at home after playing a gig with his band Nexis.

His long term partner Alison is eight months pregnant with the couples second child.

The pair already have a four-year-old daughter, Kimberley.

An online tribute group has already attracted more than 180 friends to leave their memories of Mr Guppy.

Friend Andy Donne, singer of another local band, said: "This is a shock and terrible tragedy.

"Mark was one of the most solid, dependable and down to earth people I have ever known -as well as being the best drummer I ever worked with.

"A huge heart and a great sense of humour made Mark one of a kind.

"My condolences to his family and all who knew him – a great loss."

Another friend Donna Jones said: "On the August 22 we lost a beautiful guy,and a true friend.

"It was a privilege to know him - our thoughts and love go out to Ally and Kimberley and family.

"One of the last things Mark said to me the night he passed on,"...it's life,it's rock n roll, just get on with it..." This was Marks response to me moaning about playing a bum note that night.

"I love him so much, and always will,a piece of me died with him.

"God bless and goodnight drummer boy."

Mr Guppy worked at Fascia Graphics in the town for a number of years.

Details of his funeral have yet to be arranged.

An inquest into his death has been opened.
