A five-year-old boy has died after being shot with an air rifle, police revealed today Emergency services were called at 12.15pm on Monday to the village of Fovant near Tisbury to reports that a young child had been shot in the head.
He was airlifted by Great Western Ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol but tragically passed away some time on Monday afternoon.
Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: ''We can confirm that following a call at 12.15pm yesterday officers attended a property in the Fovant area of Tisbury to reports that a young child had been injured with an air rifle.
''The child was air lifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol but sadly died yesterday afternoon.
''We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, but we are not treating it as suspicious at this time.
''A report will be prepared for HM Coroner for Swindon and Wiltshire and it is not appropriate to release any further information at this stage.''
