Planning permission for a new police station in Calne has been granted by the local authority.
The police station is being rebuilt because the current building is in poor condition and does not facilitate modern policing or have appropriate access for visitors. The old building is also larger than is actually required resulting in expensive overheads and maintenance costs.
Construction is due to begin in December 2009 with the building expected to be completed in May 2010 and ready for occupation the following month. During the building process the Neighbourhood Policing Team will work from an office in the Town Hall to ensure that visibility and reassurance of the police presence is maintained.
Chief Inspector Gavin Williams said: ‘Having received planning permission, I am really pleased that the project is taking shape and progressing well. The new station in Calne will continue to ensure a visible presence within Calne and provide an effective base for the Neighbourhood Policing Team to work from for many years to come.
I look forward to the next stage and will continue to keep the local Community informed of the progress being made.’ If members of the public have any enquiries regarding the new police station they can call 01380 734060 or email estates@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk
