Two teenagers were arrested in Calne last night on suspicion of firing a BB gun at two men.

Reports were made to police after the 19-year-old and 16-year-old boys shot at two men in Dixon Way at around 4pm on Sunday.

PC Hans Monahan said: "A resident was clearing his house out with a friend when two youths cycled by and produced a BB gun and fired it.

"They fired at the property and the resident's friend then made off."

The victims were able to identify the youngsters, and a search by officers resulted in a BB gun and pellets being seized.

PC Monahan said: "We were hoping to arrest the youngsters because this was an incident of anti-social behaviour involving an imitation fire arm.

"It is not wise to have anything that looks like a gun because people can get unnecessarily worried when they do not know what is being fired at them.

"The youngsters are old enough to know better and this sort of behaviour will land them in trouble.

"We can not have people being fired at with imitation fire arms.

"Though BB guns can be bought easily and legally they do pose a threat to the safety of others and to their owners if used in a public place."

Both youths were interviewed at Melksham Police Station and released on bail.

They are due to return on September 29 for possible charge.

Officers are using this incident as a warning to others that they will not tolerate the use of fire arms, whether imitation or real.
