I refer to Michael Gray’s letter on his not wanting Tesco in Marlborough (Gazette letters, August 13).
He asks: “Is it really worth the sacrifice for steroid injected chickens and ready-made burgers?”.
Just ask the poor and hungry of Marlborough.
Some years ago Stow-on-the-Wold fought against a supermarket. The supermarket arrived on the edge of town, the centre is delightful and financially successful as before. Both parties were satisfied.
The Hopton Trading Estate in Devizes has both industry and sales and services direct to the public including a veterinary service and children’s play area. It has not diminished Devizes.
