A helicopter used to evacuate war casualties in Afghanistan will be among the attractions at next month’s Emergency Services Show in Hullavington.
The helicopter, used in Helmand province, is operated by the Medical Emergency Response Team from RAF Lyneham It is among five helicopters at the show, the others being used by coastguards, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Avon and Somerset Police and Great Western Ambulance Service.
Captain John Bell, star of television programmes Seaside Rescue and HM Coastguard is bringing the coastguard search and rescue helicopter, along with a land-based rescue vehicle.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance will work from the showground on the day.
The helicopters will form part of a display of emergency vehicles at the show on September 13 at Hullavington Airfield.
The idea is for the public to meet the people who respond to a variety of emergenices, from terrorist incidents to floods, fires and road traffic collisions.
Vintage vehicles will also be on display, plus demonstrations by the three ‘blue light’ services.
The show, now in its fifth year, is organised by a voluntary committee drawn from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Wiltshire Police and Great Western Ambulance Service. Profits are ploughed into local charities linked with the emergency services.
