Controversial transport plans will be discussed at a meeting in Corsham next week in a bid to allay residents’ fears of traffic chaos.

People in Corsham are invited to attend The Corsham School next Wednesday at 7pm to find out more about the changes to traffic linked to the Ministry of Defence redevelopment of the Basil Hill site.

The meeting has been organised by Wiltshire Council’s Corsham Area Board with the chairman of the area board, councillor Dick Tonge and traffic experts from the council on hand to answer questions about the changes.

Area board chairman Dick Tonge said: “Transport changes linked to the redevelopment of Basil Hill have been an important issue to local people, this meeting will give us an opportunity to show why the changes are being made and why they are necessary.

“The purpose of the meeting is to give people the opportunity to have their questions answered”

The proposed changes are deemed necessary to cope with the increase in traffic during the next ten years and include proposals for traffic lights along the A4.

The meeting has been organised to address residents’ concerns after more than 100 residents attended the first Corsham Area Board meeting under the new council on July 27 to have their say on the matter.

Pickwick resident John Potter said that although he may not be able to attend he hopes that others may get the chance to air their views at this meeting as he feels people were restricted at the Corsham area board meeting.

“I just hope that the meeting has been organised differently to the area board meeting as we were very controlled in how much we could say," he said.
