Work was halted at a factory in the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate in Calne on Monday after a fire broke out at lunchtime.

Fire crews called to the Sarivale woodworking factory in Redman Road just after 12.30pm found a fire in an outside extraction system.

Firefighters from Chippenham, Melksham and Devizes used six breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

Work at the joinery was stopped until the following day to clear up the debris even though the damage to the factory was minimal and the 22 workers were not evacuated.

A spokesman for Sarivale Ltd said: “There was not a lot of damage as the fire was not a large one.

“We did not evacuate the factory as there was no need – there was no danger to the staff.

“It took about a day and a half to get back up and running, but everything is back to normal now.

“The fire crews were excellent and we would like to thank them for their work.”

A spokesman for the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was accidental.

Sarivale Ltd is a carpentry and joinery factory which creates bespoke furniture to order.
