Celebrities from the world of sport, television and comedy descended on Wiltshire Golf and Country Club in Wootton Bassett on Monday – all in the name of charity.
TV chef Brian Turner, Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson, comedian Tom O’Connor and BBC golf commentator Peter Alliss were among the stars taking part in the third Wiltshire Celebrity Charity Golf Day.
Nearly 40 teams took part in the golf day which was organised by golf club owner Eddy Shah and wife Jennifer to raise money for stem cell research.
Mrs Shah, who was given just three months to live after being diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1981, said: “We had an incredible day and we raised £50,000 for the charity which is very close to my heart.
“It’s such a fantastic amount and it’s such a good feeling to be able to hand over so much money to the charity.
“It took so much organising and at times you feel like you can’t do it anymore – it’s difficult organising so many men.
“But we had wonderful weather and a brilliant day.”
The Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation was named after Daniel Nicholls, the son of celebrity chef David.
At the age of 19 Daniel was left paralysed after diving into a wave and breaking his neck on a sandbank.
The charity is dedicated to the research and development of stem cell surgery.
