The last ever group of students to sit their A-levels in the 50 year old St John’s School building have equalled last year’s best ever results.

Just over 100 students took a total of 300 exams in 37 different subjects achieving 26% of all results at Grade A and half of all results were either Grade A or B.

At least 80 per cnet of students already have confirmed places at university with more expected to confirm over the next 48 hours.

Headteacher Dr Patrick Hazlewood said: “This is another excellent performance for our students and I am sure these results will stand them in good stead for their future “I am very proud of their achievements and this is a just reward for all their hard work. I must also congratulate all the teachers who worked with these students, and thank all the families who have supported us over the last seven years.”

Some of the more notable successes included Deborah de Beukelaer who achieved five A grades, following in her older sister’s Olivia’s footsteps who achieved the same grades last year.

Katie Humphries, star of the school debating team achieved four grades and a further twelve students achieved at least three A-grades: Jemma Adams, Lauren Atkins, Gemma Bowden, Harry Campion, Steph Harper, Peter Holloway, Poll Hudson, David Osborne, Mat Pitts, Clare Pocock, Ani Rendle and Becky Ripley.

Deborah De Beukelaer, 18, who lives in Marlborough was very modest about her achievement and being the school’s top performer.

She will be taking a gap year in Spain and is hoping to go to Oxford to study philosophy, politics and economics.

Katie Humphries, whose parents are both teachers, achieved four A grades and after a gap year in France will be going to Durham
