Ever since British cyclists walked away from Beijing last summer with a clutch of gold medals the sport has been on the up.
But even if you do not think you are quite in Chris Hoy’s league you can still use pedal power to help Age Concern. Wiltshire Age Concern Wiltshire is offering the ideal opportunity to take to the tarmac.
On Friday August 28 from 6.30pm the charity has been given the use of the track at Castle Combe racing circuit for a series of two-wheeled events, but strictly under pedal power.
Andy Cook, national non-competitive events manager for British Cycling, is organising a series of fun cycling events around the track for people of all ages and abilities.
He said: “This is a concept I developed for the Chippenham Cycling Club. The core activity will be completing laps of the two-mile circuit. It is not a race. People will cycle in their own time and get points for the number of laps they do according to their ability.
“They should bring along their own bikes although there will be some bike support from ourselves.
“We are delighted to be helping Age Concern Wiltshire raise money on its 60th anniversary.”
Emily Cole at Age Concern Wiltshire said: “This is very much part of our message to older people in that they can take exercise that is suitable for them. In addition to the cycle rides, there will be an event for powered wheelchairs. It is all for fun but the serious part of the evening will be raising our target of £60,000 to support services such as befriending and advice.”
