Skywatcher Trevor Vincent is baffled by strange lights he saw in the sky above Calne on Saturday night.
Mr Vincent, of Westerham Walk in Calne, was enjoying a barbecue at a friend’s house when something moving quickly across the sky caught his eye.
He said: “It was a nice starry night so we were outside having a look at the stars.
“We saw a shooting star cross the sky, which always takes you aback.
“Then at about 10.35pm we spotted an orange light moving fairly fast in the sky from the western side – it was racing along.
“We had only just been talking about these sorts of lights because I have seen them before.
“I saw one of them and said ‘look, it’s one of those lights’, then there were two, then another and then four.
“They just kept coming.”
The 47-year-old father-of-two described two of the lights as moving together, before one overtook the other and was then overtaken by the second light.
“We were totally amazed,” he said. “They all joined in and this went on for about 15 minutes – the kids were all taking pictures.
“We were all gobsmacked.
“They definitely were not planes because they were totally quiet.”
Shortly afterwards Mr Vincent said passing clouds obstructed their view of the lights.
“We saw around five on New Year’s Eve, but they disappeared,” he said.
“Then I saw them a couple of weeks ago again.
“Other people must have seen them and I just want to know what they were.
“We would like to think they were UFOs, but there must be some explanation.
“This is not something you see every day.
“My daughter is always star watching and we see the odd satellite going across, but you can tell what they are. These were something else.”
A Ministry of Defence UFO report of 2008 details a similar sighting in September when five brightly glowing orange orbs were seen flying silently above Calne.
