Ten-year-old Luke Coates has taken up his father Jamie’s hobby of restoring vintage engines.
At the weekend Mr Coates, 42, marked 30 years of collecting and restoring engines.
His son has now got the bug and regularly attends shows all over the country with his father exhibiting their machinery.
Luke, a pupil at Southbroom Junior School, has helped to restore eight engines.
In the past 30 year Mr Coates, a civil servant whose pastime was featured in Gazette in 1982, has amassed more than 70 agricultural and industrial stationery engines.
He said: “There is hardly anyone of Luke’s age at the shows, he’s one of a dying breed. He does painting, polishing and welding on the engines and is quite knowledgeable about them.”
Explaining why he enjoys his hobby Luke said: “It just gets to me. I like the noise they make when then run.”
Luke does have other interests including playing football for Bishops Cannings.
