Judges are viewing Pewsey Carnival floats in a different light this year.
Instead of inspecting them in the assembly field before the procession on Saturday September 19, they will watch along the route before naming the winners at the closing service in the Market Place next day from 7pm.
The parade has always been hailed as the Pewsey Carnival Illuminated Procession but when it moves off at 7.30pm, particularly on sunny days, the floats could not be seen at their best.
As well as £100 prize for the winners, each entry will be paid £30 for taking part to encourage more entries.
Before the procession there will be a decorated mask competition with a top prize of £100.
The carnival fortnight will include events for all ages.
A children’s carnival and fun day at Pewsey Vale School on September 6, will feature a fancy dress parade, street art workshop, a battle of the bands and shows from Kooky the Clown.
The children’s duck race at Scotchel takes place on Saturday September 12, 2pm.
The 60-plus age group can enjoy a Feast Tea on Monday September 14. On the same day the children’s three-legged race makes a return at 2pm from the Royal Oak.
Pewsey Youth Council is running a village quiz with entry forms in the carnival programmes available at Cossor’s, Head and Robins and other shops.
