Devizes MP Michael Ancram has denied that a dynasty is to be established in his constituency after he stands down at the next General Election.
Mr Ancram, who stunned voters last week by announcing he will not contest the seat he has held since 1992, this week denied rumours that his daughter, Clare Kerr, would stand in his place.
Miss Kerr, 30, has been employed at Conservative Central Office gaining experience working on David Cameron’s Quality of Life commission, as well as working closely with Nick Hurd MP.
Her name has been mentioned in connection with her father’s seat, which he held at the last election by a majority of 13,000.
But Mr Ancram told the Gazette this week: “Clare hasn’t expressed any intention at all to stand.”
Another name mentioned as a possible candidate for the Devizes constituency at the next election is Coun Jane Scott, the leader and inspiration behind Wiltshire Council.
She said she hadn’t ruled out standing but added: “I am very busy with Wiltshire Council and haven’t had time to consider it.
“So I am not going to say no, but I am not contemplating doing anything about it at the moment.”
The process of looking for a prospective parliamentary candidate is likely to start at the beginning of September.
