An iconic part of flower displays in Devizes town centre has been restored.
Devizes Town Council’s 12-foot long boat planter was wrecked by vandals who took it from the roundabout on Southbroom Road and dumped it in The Crammer in March.
It was recovered badly damaged from the water and volunteers from the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust offered to fix it after an appeal in the Gazette.
Volunteers John Kirby, Adrian Softley, John Peters and Rod Hannah spent eight hours fixing it while Victoria Westwood of The Boatyard at Trowbridge made the fenders.
The planter is on display in the Penny Bank in St John’s Street.
Carole Berry, direct services manager at the town council, said: “When the damage occurred we thought we would have to scrap the planter, but we were so overwhelmed with messages of support that we knew that people wanted the boat back.”
