Drivers in Marlborough have continued to suffer gridlock today thanks to a triple whammy of road works.

Traffic heading into the town from every direction has met with long queues with tailbacks as far back on the A346 Swindon Road to beyond the Ogbourne Downs Golf Club.

One woman driver reported taking more than one and a half hours to drive to Chiseldon and back to get petrol yesterday.

Gas excavations in Barn Street, part of the main Swindon-Salisbury route through Marlborough, have combined with work to rebuild the zebra crossing by St Peter's Junior School and more traffic lights in London Road between the Roebuck and Barnfield where drain covers are being repaired to bring traffic to a standstill.

West and Wales Utilities who are installing a new gas main along Barn Street have installed a temporary one-way system with south bound traffic still able to use one side of Barn Street but all north-bound traffic having to use Kingsbury Street.

On Sunday long queues stretched back over The Common almost to Rockley.

The gridlock continued over the weekend and again today and there is little chance of any improvement while the combination of roadworks continues.
