Plans for the new health centre at Green Lane comprising the three GP surgeries in Devizes will go on show on October 1.

NHS Wiltshire together with the GP surgeries has arranged for the plans for the Primary Care Centre to be on display at Devizes Town Hall.

The times for the open day have not yet been arranged but are likely to be during the day and into the evening.

A planning application was due to be submitted this month under the original timetable but this has been delayed due to NHS Wiltshire working with the GPs to refine the architect’s plans.

Sarah MacLennan, communications manager at NHS Wiltshire, said: “The plans and a 3D model for the Devizes Primary Care Centre will be on display and staff will be available to talk about the facilities on October 1.

“Then the plans will go to NHS Wiltshire’s board meeting in November with the planning application going to Wiltshire Council in December or January.”

She said if the planning application is approved building work would start in March 2010 and the centre would be open 12 months later.

The town’s GPs from Lansdowne, Southbroom and St James’ surgeries would own the new centre while NHS Wiltshire would lease space in it for services it provides such as outpatient clinics and baby clinics.

These services are currently provided at Devizes Hospital and the Family Health Centre in New Park Street and these services would remain as they are until the new centre opens, Ms MacLennan said.

The Primary Care Centre will be sited opposite the NHS Treatment Centre which is due to open in November.

Ms MacLennan said X-ray facilities at the Treatment Centre would be available for use by patients of the Primary Care Centre.
