The Calne area board will hear from three community groups who are seeking funding for local projects at the next meeting on August 25.
The meeting will start at 7pm in Calne Town Hall and there will be the opportunity to chat with councillors and community representatives over a tea or coffee from 6.30pm Area boards will form a key part of the decision making structure of Wiltshire Council and ensure decisions about local issues are made locally and are open to everyone in the community. These new style meetings will identify issues of genuine local concern and respond quickly and effectively with practical action.
Each area board has a budget which it can award to local schemes to improve life in the community. Splash is seeking help with funding holiday activities that are healthy and fun for young people, Calne Town Council would like support for a project to enhance the appearance of empty shops and Goatacre Cricket Club wants help with providing new and replacement tools and equipment.
An introduction will be given to the Community Area Partnership’s transport theme group and people will get an opportunity to discuss ways the community can work with partners to improve some of the local transport issues.
There will also be an update on the community issues that have been received since Calne held its first area board in July.
Area board chairman Alan Hill, said: “We want to build on the enthusiasm and support that the area board has already received. This meeting will start the work required in order to address the issues faced by local people and take decisions that will deliver real improvements for the community.”
