The news that the Bridge Centre/Bath Rd development is being put on hold (Gazette & Herald 6/8/09) is very regrettable but possibly understandable during this current economic recession.
However this does not detract from the fact that the Bridge Centre is a totally unsuitable place for a youth centre in what is effectively a traffic island with the associated pollution and noise to potentially damage the health of youngsters using the centre .
It occurs to me that the now redundant Post Sorting Office in Station Hill and the former Taylor motorcycle shop could be converted into a new youth centre with little cost.
It has the added advantage that there is sufficient space there for a skateboard park (in the former post office car park) which is what many young people in Chippenham having been striving for.
Would the Gazette & Herald support a campaign to transform these sites into an alternative youth centre?
