Heavy metal fans will be able to rock for charity next month at a Chippenham gig organised by Denis and Sue O’Sullivan.
The couple, of Fortune Way, Pewsham, set up the website Give A Band A Chance earlier this year on which local, unsigned bands get to showcase themselves in a bid to get noticed.
The heavy metal night at Jax on September 20 will raise money for local musicians to get free tuition and for the Fresh Start Foundation in Gambia.
Mrs O’Sullivan said: “The evening will feature bands from Chippenham, Trowbridge and Swindon and half the money will be ploughed back into the music scene.
“Since setting up the website, we have helped to organise a number of gigs for local bands but this is the first charity event we have organised.
“I just came across the Gambia charity and then by chance I saw the founder on an episode of Deal or No Deal and thought that is one of the charities we should support.
“We are hoping to get about 250 people into the venue and, after costs, think we should be able to make £1,000 for charity.
“As well as the Gambia charity we will split the money to fund music lessons for youngsters in the town.”
The couple set up the website after their 15-year-old son Daniel was finding it hard to get venues for his band.
The Fresh Start Foundation helps to provide education and health care to orphans aged seven to 18 in the Gambia who, due to poverty, are vulnerable to abuse.
