Negotiations have restarted over a theatre-cinema complex for Marlborough.
John Cornell, chairman of Kennet Valley Arts Trust, says in its newsletter that it has been invited to talks with Wiltshire Council on how to proceed with the £5m Riverbank project for a 150-seater theatre and a two-screen “boutique” cinema.
Trustee Charles Scott said it had been a frustrating 12 months. “Things have been held up because the local authority has been thrown out of kilter by the abolition of Kennet District Council,” he told the Gazette “The site in George Lane car park has passed to Wiltshire Council so we must start all over again on negotiations for the building.”
Another change is Clatford entrepreneur Howard Spooner’s proposal for the centre to be a commercial venture.
Mr Scott said: “Because there is a more commercial side to it now, it changes the nature of the permissions we had already received from Kennet District Council. We have already started discussions with Wiltshire Council officers and the signs are positive.”
