The Red Arrows performed their aerobatics, police dogs jumped through hoops and some lucky visitors got a ride in a helicopter at RAF Lyneham’s family day on Saturday.
Hundreds of people from the base and their friends were on parade for the annual carnival of spectacular flying and popular attractions.
A spokesman for the base said: “The event aims to demonstrate the output of the station and to serve as a thank you to those who support station personnel in their efforts on a daily basis.
“Crowds of families and friends were treated to spectacular air displays by the world famous Red Arrows, Chinook helicopter, the Blades and the breathtakingly loud and impressive Vulcan. “The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team performed an excellent show, jumping from a Chinook before landing in the arena to cheers from the crowds.”
The day was also packed with activities for youngsters with bouncy castles, sumo wrestling and a dog display from the RAF Police was another highlight. Some visitors were lucky enough to take to the skies of Wiltshire on board a C130 Hercules.
Mum Sue Thomas, whose husband Lee has been based at Lyneham for two years, said: “Everyone’s had such a nice time and it was a real community feel.
“It is nice to meet families in a similar situation to you and the kids had a great time.”
Wiltshire Police Road Safety Team brought several vehicles and provided information about keeping safe on the county’s busy roads.
The day was rounded off with a two-hour set from local band Doctor Chocolate
