Golf nut Alex Ballard told how he jumped for joy after becoming one of an incredible five Marlborough players to hit holes-in-one in the same week.

The junior captain achieved the feat on the fourth hole of the course, located off Free’s Avenue, as did veteran female Pat Harris.

Male members Phil Redmond and Rob Trimboy shot theirs on the eighth and fourteenth while Andy Elsworth sunk his on the second.

Fifteen-year-old Alex, who plays off an impressive six handicap, was with his close friend and vice-captain Jake Scholes, 16, and said the pair could not conceal their joy.

“We went cr azy,” he said. “We just started jumping up and down and shouting.

“It is a reasonably difficult hole being a 170 yard, downhill par three, so obviously there was a bit of luck involved but it was still a pretty good shot.”

The St John’s School pupil, who lives in Ramsbury, only played nine holes that day but went back to the bar to be met by Mr Redmond who in the middle of celebrating his own triumph. “I went in and he was buying everyone a drink,” said Alex.

“We said congratulations to each other and I’ve played with him a few times before.”

The teenager previously made headlines when he hit his only ever previous hole in one at the Marlborough course at the tender age of 12.

Andy Elsworth scored his on the par-three second hole.

Mr Elsworth, 59, of Upper Stratton, Swindon, was playing with two friends at the time. After his round he went up to the bar and bought everyone who there a drink. “Luckily there wasn’t too many,” he said.
