About 200 people turned out for the first Midsummer Mayhem Family Fun Day at the Learning Curve Day Nursery in Wootton Bassett at the weekend.

Vintage fire engines, tractor rides, dog shows, arts and crafts and mini football were among the attractions at the fun day.

The day raised about £500 for Greatwood Horse Power, a project in Marlborough which enables special needs children to interact with horses.

Director Alan Butler said that, for a first attempt, the event was a huge success.

“We decided that we wanted to support Horse Power because we wanted something local that involved children,” he said.

“I worked about 90 hours in the week leading up to the day, so I was absolutely shattered.

“If we can get the help, we would like to do something similar again.”

He said that two vintage fire engines brought along by Wootton Bassett town councillor Chris Wannell were stars of the show and very popular with the children.
