Libraries across Wiltshire are inviting older people along to a range of events being held during the counties Age No Barrier week running from Saturday, June 20 to Friday, June 26.

One of the Wiltshire Council-run libraries taking part is Melksham. The staff would like to welcome older people into the library for an open morning on Thursday, June 25 between 10am and 12pm.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be served throughout the morning by pupils from The George Ward School. There will be an opportunity to chat to staff and find out more about the services offered by the library.

The pupils will also provide a drop-in introduction to computers where visitors can find out how to set up an email account, use the Internet, or even just have a go at using a computer for the first time. Those attending can also find out how to get started with researching family history on-line.

Jane Hunt, community librarian for Melksham, said: “I am very pleased to be taking part in Age No Barrier Week as it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the role of older people and to bring younger and older people together to learn more about each other.

“I am keen to promote Melksham library as a centre for all members of the local community where they can meet, relax and access the information they need.”

Age No Barrier week is being organised by Wiltshire & Swindon Users Network, Age Concern Wiltshire and Age Concern Salisbury District, in association with Wiltshire Council and NHS Wiltshire.

The objectives of Age No Barrier week are to raise the profile of older people across the county, to celebrate the contribution older people make to their communities, and to recognise that age is no barrier for people to come together to make a positive contribution to their community. It will also provide an opportunity for different age groups to use their skills and knowledge in such a way that they learn, enjoy and benefit from one another.
