I was absolutely furious to learn that Calne Town Council is raising a policy objection to the principle of residential development on the former Calne Service Station. I live opposite the site on London Road, which is a complete eyesore and needs urgent redevelopment. I am therefore strongly in favour of the proposals.
While there has been some local objection to the proposals to build nine dwellings, this appears to primarily relate to what may be a misunderstanding about the height of the development.
Furthermore, many of those residents who have objected have stated that they have no objection to the principle of residential development. This is contrary to the town council’s current stance.
I hope Calne Town Council reconsiders this matter and withdraws its objection.
Nigel Atkinson, London Road, Calne.
