Today could be the longest day in more ways than one for charity cyclist Jason Hughes.

He is putting his bottom on the line to raise money for the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent by riding a canary yellow pre-war tandem bike from London to Brighton.

Mr Hughes, of West Street, in Malmesbury, who is the parliamentary Labour candidate for North Wiltshire, will be accompanied by eight friends from across the political spectrum.

He said: “The nine of us all have varied views on politics ranging from socialist to libertarian to staunch conservatism.

“But this does not stop us being friends and more importantly does not stop us wanting to get together and raise money for a very worthwhile cause.”

Mr Hughes admits to not being the fittest person in the world.

He said: “This does represent a significant personal challenge for me, but one that I am very much looking forward to.

“Given that the distance is almost 60 miles I suspect it will be the longest day of the year for me in more ways than one.”
