A driver escaped with a cut on his nose when his Ford Fiesta was in collision with a combine harvester outside Devizes on Wednesday evening.

The man, who has not been named, was treated at the scene for the minor injury but emergency professionals said he was lucky it was no worse.

Pip Flowers, commander of Devizes fire station, said: "He was lucky it was a very slow speed impact or he could have lost his head.

"His car came into contact with the cutting machinery at the front of the combine, which did a lot of damage to the top and front of the car."

The incident took place on the A360 Potterne road just before 5pm on Wednesday when the Fiesta coming through Potterne Woods from Devizes was in collision with the combine coming from the Potterne direction.

The road surface was slippery following rain.

The driver of the combine escaped injury. The road was closed for about 20 minutes while the vehicles were recovered.
