The accent will be on all things consumable when Devizes Food and Drink Festival gets under way on July 11.

The Market Place will once again host a huge food fair to get the festival off to a great start.

The fair, to be opened by Devizes Mayor John Leighton, will offer the chance to sample a wide range of local produce.

There will be hot food stalls and sponsors Walter Rose & Son butchers will have a marquee.

There will also be a cook-off featuring chefs from the area, including Howell Williams from Lucknam Park, Jonathan Furby from the Linnet at Great Hinton and Chris Brooks from the Wiltshire Yeoman at Chirton.

During the week there will be restaurant evenings featuring culinary delights from the Scilly Isles, Portugal and Bangladesh.

There will be a guided tour of Devizes, a teddy bears’ picnic and treasure hunt, sugar craft demonstrations, a food quiz at the Lamb Inn, a marriage of beer with food, and a cocktail evening.

The final event will be a Thai meal in The Shambles.

Festival chairman Brian Crane said: “The festival could not happen without the excellent support we have received from so many local traders, through sponsorship, generous donations of their goods and the display of posters and flags.”
