More than 200 people put their best feet forward for the 26th Broad Town 5 at the weekend.

Competitors in the five-mile run, which is organised by Wootton Bassett Hounds Running Club, raised over £4,000.

Money from the race, which was held the same day as the school fete, will go towards developing the school grounds.

School finance officer Kate Orton said both the race and the fete were a great success.

She said 228 runners had taken part in the race, which was much better than the last few years.

However in the past about 650 people had taken part in the race, which starts and finishes at the school.

Mrs Orton said that former pupils, parents, villagers and serious runners were among those competing.

Gary O’Brien of Swindon Harriers was first in a time of 27.06.

The fete, organised by teaching assistant Tracey Lundy and parent Richard Wylie, was also a huge success. “We had dog training, fire eaters, a martial arts display, and fairground rides,” said Mrs Orton.
