Pizza delivery company Sammy Jo’s has said they do not fear competition from the new Domino’s Pizza restaurant opening in Devizes on Monday.
The national chain is due to open a new takeaway in the former Rising Sun pub in Southbroom Road.
It will inevitably be in direct competition with Sammy Jo’s, based on Hopton Industrial Estate, but owners Jonathan and Emma Clark say they are not concerned.
Mr Clark said: “Whilst we think that Domino’s is an overdevelopment of the site, the increased competition is welcome. But we believe jobs created by Domino’s will be lost in others.
“Sammy Jo’s is a local family business employing local people and using local suppliers, which creates more local jobs. Sammy Jo’s makes its own dough on site in Devizes fresh every day.”
Commenting on the opening of the Devizes store next week, Vijay Chauhan, area manager for Domino’s Pizza, said: “We are very much looking forward to bringing fresh, oven-baked pizza to homes in Devizes when our new store on Southbroom Road opens next week.
“The new store has created 30 jobs for local people.”
There is still no indication when Iceland will open in the former Woolworth’s in Devizes. Although Iceland said it plans to open in October, a spokesman said this week that no start date for the conversion of the building in the Brittox has been agreed.
