A 999 call reporting a suspected bank robbery in progress in Corsham saw police in cars, with dogs and in the Wiltshire Police Helicopter descend on the town during the early hours of this morning.

A resident who had seen to young males on the roof of Lloyds TSB bank alerted the police at 12.55am.

The Wiltshire helicopter was called out to search the area for the two suspects but nobody was found, so it left at 1.20am. A dog handler saw one of the suspects trying to flee the scene at 1.45am and he was arrested minutes later.

The Wiltshire helicopter came back out to search for the second suspect who had run away from grounds units and he was found and arrested at 2am.

Two youths are being held in custody and are helping police with their enquiries on suspicion of stealing lead from the bank roof.
