A trio of Swindon Town stars have all put pen to paper on new one-year contracts at the County Ground, as Danny Wilson’s squad for the 2009/10 campaign continues to take shape.

Goalkeeper Phil Smith, defender Lescinel Jean-Francois and midfielder Craig Easton were all offered 12-month extensions to their current deals at the end of last season and had until last night to sign them.

However, last night Town’s officials were yet to hear back from Patrick Kanyuka, who has been mulling over a month-to-month deal.

Swindon club secretary Louise Fletcher said: “Three players have signed their deals - Phil Smith, Craig Easton and Lescinel Jean-Francois.

“We are still waiting to hear from Patrick Kanyuka, but will have to wait until tomorrow (Tuesday) to see if he has responded.”

Thirteen players were shown the exit door by Wilson at the start of May as he began the clearout from a disappointing season in which Swindon narrowly avoided relegation from League One.

Smith said last week he was set to agree to the new contract, while it is understood Easton emailed the club while on holiday in America, expressing his desire to be part of Town’s squad next season.

Jean-Francois arrived on trial in January and, although the Haiti international’s first team chances have been limited, Wilson has been impressed by his versatility at full-back and centre-half.

Kanyuka has suffered an injury-hit 18 months at the County Ground and is currently out of action with knee cartilage damage, but the 21-year-old has shown promise in defence as well as the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, Town arranged a press conference for 1pm today where chairman Andrew Fitton was expected to reveal the future of David Byrne.

Tranmere, who yesterday appointed John Barnes as their new manager, claimed earlier this month that assistant manager Peter Shirtliff had left Prenton Park to become Danny Wilson’s right-hand man - a move which Town have so far refused to comment on.

Byrne, who has been away on a Mediterranean cruise, is set for a change of role at the club.

It is believed he will maintain some first team coaching duties, while also taking charge of the reserve side and overseeing sections of the youth set-up.
