Having just acquired the body of a Cambrian Railways six wheel semi-corridor composite for restoration, the Swindon and Cricklade Railway have further added to their growing fleet of vintage carriages, by acquiring a four wheel North London Railway first class vehicle.

This carriage also came with the remains of another vehicle; probably a guards van, complete with tool box door and possible evidence of a birdcage, centrally placed, instead of the more usual end position.

Both probably date from the 1890s, having formed part of a bungalow in Gloucester since 1934.

Although the Railway had known of their existence for some time, a last minute opportunity arose to obtain them before the site was re-developed, and both have now been saved.

Although the carriage has had modified windows and doors fitted, the overall condition after 74 years in dry storage was remarkable; thus, the vehicle is eminently restorable, and the Railway already owns a suitable chassis.

The Railway is now seeking materials to erect a car port type building in their car park at Blunsdon, to protect both carriages, so that visitors may visit, go inside, and learn their story.
