More than 60 walkers set off from Devizes Wharf on Saturday to raise money for equipment for cancer patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

It is the second year the walk has been held in memory of Devizes mum Vanessa Kyte, who raised thousands of pounds for the Forever Friends Appeal after being diagnosed with cancer.

Many of her family took part in this year’s walk, including her husband Mike, children Olivia, 18, and Molly, 15, sister Nicola Noble and mother Diane Young, who was too unwell to take part last year.

Walkers had the choice of doing the full 21 miles from Devizes to Bath, stopping halfway at Bradford on Avon, or walking from Bradford on Avon to Bath. Most of the 67 walkers, though, chose to walk the full distance.

Natalie Hannam in the Forever Friends Appeal office said: “It was a fantastic day and the weather was perfect. Although we didn’t have quite so many walkers as last year, I think we have got more sponsorship, though it’s impossible to know until the money is collected in.

“The new mayor of Bath, Colin Barrett, met us at the finish and we were given a marvellous reception.”
