A 71-year-old man was arrested and bailed on Monday following a drugs warrant at Chapel Lane, in Box.

The pensioner’s home was searched by several police officers and a PCSO at 9am and a substantial amount of what was believed to be cannabis was found.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

PC Heather Barham, who attended the warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act, said: “We knew the man was in his 70s before we carried out our search.

“We knocked on the door before carrying out a search in his home, finding drugs scattered around in drawers and other places.

“It turned out to be a fairly friendly situation.

“He accepted that we were doing our job and we seized about half a carrier bag’s worth of dried cannabis.”

The man has been bailed until July 24 pending further inquiries.
