Teenage motocross racer Pat Stott, who broke his neck when he fell during a race on Sunday, is one of a group of friends in Marlborough who have been competing on two wheels since they were old enough to ride.

His best friend and racing mate Jordan Blake, 17, of St Martins, in Marlborough, was riding behind him and saw him crash in Sunday’s Fast Track Racing Support Championship meeting at Elvetham, near Basingstoke.

Jordan was just one of dozens of Pat’s friends who put up get well messages on the Facebook website with his reading: “You can pull through this Pat...we don’t call you Patsrana for nothing. All my thoughts are with you mate, miss you buddy, get well soon.”

Pat’s girlfriend Jade Floyd, who was at his bedside with his parents Andy and Sarah yesterday, said in her Facebook message the night before: “I love you Patrick, so hard not having you here with me as usual. Miss you more than you’ll ever know.”

Another friend called James wrote: “Pat please get well soon. I think I can speak for everyone that we are missing you already.”

Pat, 18, of Homefields, Marlborough, was yesterday said to be in a critical condition in hospital in Southampton.

He has worked as a green keeper at Ogbourne Chase Golf Club for the past nine months. Previously he had been in the building trade with his father Andy but had to find a new job because of the recession.

Golf club manager Kevin Pickett said: “Pat is a great lad. He has been the life and soul of the five green keeping staff and the youngest one and he has fitted in so well.

“He works here Mondays to Fridays but at weekends he lives for his bike and for racing.”

Jordan is standing in for Pat at his job until he is well enough to return.

Yesterday Jordan spoke of the close competition between them and other young riders who all started racing as boys and have all grown up together.

He said that as well as being very popular with his riding mates, Pat also had many friends among his age group in Marlborough.

“Some of us are going to put together a CD with some of his favourite songs on to help him recover,” said Jordan.
