Organisers of the Bowood Dog Show and Summer Fair are hoping to raise more money for charity than ever when thousands flock to the event today.

Last year more than 10,000 visitors helped raise nearly £45,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support, the Springboard pre-school for children with special needs, Headway Bath, Wiltshire Blind Association, the Wiltshire Bobby Van and other charities.

Show president Lady Lansdowne said: “The ethos of our show has always been to provide an event for all the family, a great day out, whether or not you have a dog.

“I was thrilled when last year’s event raised a staggering £45,000 and I hope we will be able to do as well this year and continue to make a difference to our charities.

“None of that would happen without Wavin, our main sponsor, and I would like to thank them for their continued support.”

One attraction that is bound to attract a crowd is the Kids in the Kitchen challenge with national food writers and TV presenters Matthew Fort and Tom Parker Bowles.

The duo will join forces with six young competition winners to attempt to cook a number of recipes demonstrated by Devizes chef Peter Vaughan in just 15 minutes.

Another new addition to the show is the Canine Corner, which will feature displays, workshops and dog-themed stalls. The show will be open from 10am until 5pm.
