Some of the giants of agriculture and rural life in bygone years will be among the attractions at the Wiltshire Steam and Vintage Rally taking place at Oare on June 13 and 14.

This will be the fifth year that this popular country fair featuring a host of attractions besides vintage agricultural machinery has taken place in the spectacular natural arena of Rainscombe Park by kind permission of Robert and Lady Julia Hiscox.

Once again the proceeds from the event will go to the Wiltshire Bobby Van appeal that provides security assistance to people who have been victims of crime and to the elderly. In recent years the Wiltshire Agricultural Preservation group that runs the rally has contributed more than £11,000 to the appeal.

Spokesman Karen Giddings said the event isgetting bigger and better each year and has become a firm favourite with families from a wide area.

“Each year we introduce a few new and different things,” she said. “There will be more steam engines this time and we are expecting to have 13 on show.”

There will be an English Civil War re-enactment camp as well as a Wild West camp.

Special displays will mark the 100th anniversary of the West Country agricultural machinery manufacturer Lister and the 50th anniversary of the Mini car.

There will be a miniature steam railway providing rides along a 100 feet long track.

Marquees will house displays of crafts and models and there will be vintage and classic cars and motorbikes on show.

The show will be open 10am-5pm both days.
