Former John Bentley pupil Rob Long has had his first taste of fame after one of his songs was chosen for the soundtrack of the latest blockbuster film Twilight.
Let Me Sign was written by the 22-year-old music student and recorded by Rob Pattinson, star of the teen vampire flick that has taken America by storm.
Mr Long, formally of Wessington Park, in Calne, said: “It is mad that one of my songs has been used in a massive film.
“I moved to London three-and-a-half years ago to study music for films and started playing in bars and things to get some money together.
“I was doing up to five gigs a week and used to bump into some guys who I got friendly with. One of them was the actor Rob Pattinson.
“We played this song one night and then found out that Rob had recorded it in LA.
“It is funny because we wrote it one night on a roof in London and now it is in a major film.” The singer, who performs as Bobby Long, attended the UK premier of Twilight in Leicester Square last Wednesday where he was greeted by 5,000 screaming fans.
“It was crazy,” he said. “I know the fans were screaming for Rob Pattinson but I did get one shout. There was a girl shouting ‘Bobby’ so I went over and she asked me how I was doing.”
Mr Long is in his final year at London Metropolitan University and is currently recording an EP with a producer. “I have recently been taken on by a manager and hope that the publicity around the film will help me move forward,” he said.
His future plans include recording the soundtrack for another film and possibly an American tour. “A lot of Americans ask me on My Space if I am going to go to the US as they have heard of me through Twilight.”
